Dong Hyun joined the team in January 2025 as a postdoctoral researcher. He is an experienced scientist in building physics and illumination engineering, with research and teaching interests in climate design, (day)lighting design, and sustainability. At ETH Zurich, he explores how occupants experience thermal and visual comfort, identifies the key factors influencing these perceptions, and investigates how adaptive solar facades (ASFs) like Solskin can enhance human comfort while optimizing energy efficiency. His ultimate goal is to develop an AI-controlled ASF that optimizes human comfort and energy performance.

Before joining ETH Zurich, Dong Hyun held postdoctoral positions at EPFL (2021–2024) and TU Delft (2018–2020). At EPFL, he focused on investigating factors affecting visual comfort under both daylighting and artificial lighting, aiming to refine existing visual comfort models. At TU Delft, he explored indoor comfort and health by conducting large-scale field experiments in offices, schools, and hospitals.

Dong Hyun received a PhD in Built Environment (2018) and an MSc in Light and Lighting (2012) from University College London (UCL).
