BauHOW5 Event at ETH Zurich: “Decarbonization of the Built Environment: Current & Future Needs and the Role of Architecture Universities”
When: Friday 14th June 2024, 09.00-12.30
Where: Institute of Technology in Architecture ETH Zurich Campus Hoenggerberg, Building HIB, Open Space 2-3, Stefano-Franscini-Platz 1, 8093 Zurich, Switzerland (Google Maps).
Organizers: Prof. Dr. Thaleia Konstantinou, TUDelft, Prof. Dr. Arno Schlueter, ETH Zurich.
BauHow5 Partner Universities: Technical University of Munich, TU Delft, University College London, Chalmers University of Technology, ETH Zurich.
Scope and objective
Given the urgency to decarbonize the Built environment, research and education in the design and planning of buildings and cities has a pivotal role. BauHow5 is a European alliance of five leading research-intensive European universities in Architecture and the Built Environment. Their position gives them the opportunity, but also the responsibility to educate future architects to address this challenge, as well as inform stakeholders and policymakers. To achieve that, collaboration between the academics of those institutions is key to achieving better results and outreach.
The goal of this one-day event is, on the one hand, to provide each other with insights on the ongoing research that supports the Decarbonization of the Built Environment, and on the other hand, to identify key research areas and complementarities and define strategies for the interaction between research and teaching. Since it is a multi-scale, interdisciplinary issue, a range of topics will be discussed, including technical solutions, energy performance simulation, Building Stock modeling, AI and Machine learning, decision-making, whole-life carbon and circularity, PEDs, stakeholders’ roles etc.
