Dr. Lars Grobe: postdoctoral researcher and Daylight Fellow

Dr. Lars Grobe, postdoctoral researcher and Daylight Fellow at ITA, supported by the Velux Foundation, is specialized in daylight research. While most of the studies on daylight and occupant studies up to date have been conducted on office buildings, Lars’ current research focuses on daylight in residential buildings.

“I’m interested in knowing what’s happening inside residential buildings, what are the users’ realities, activities and needs. I hope to find new metrics that will guide us in the design of future residential buildings, that satisfy the needs of their inhabitants, and that are efficient and sustainable - thanks to the optimized provision of daylight.

A major step will be to test real-scale mock-ups in the new Zero Carbon Building Systems Lab. Thanks to the Climate Chamber and the Solar Simulator, me and the team will be able to study unexpected effects by complex building facades exposed to sunlight early on in the research, including phenomena that would get missed when working with small prototypes. This, for example, will also be attractive for partner companies, giving them the chance to test real products within our lab facility.”
